INCA
TECHNOLOGY
There were various technologies and practices that took place in the Inca society which helped them function smoothly. Some of them included quipus, a calendar, time system, and communication runners. First, the quipu was a system of record-keeping that was comprised of a group of strings with knots used to keep track of the population and goods. The Inca had a calendar comprised of twelve months with corresponding festivals, which was most likely based on the movement of the sun and moon. To continue, they also used the sun to keep track of time, and there is evidence of stone structures that would have acted as a clock. The Inca had an incredible relationship with astronomy, which is seen through their calendar and time systems. Furthermore, in terms of communication, they created a network of runners who would relay information between villages, by way of roads. There were even rest stations created along the roads in order to accommodate for the runners needs. In addition, the irrigation, agricultural, and architectural technologies that existed were all instrumental in creating a prosperous and successful society.
